Louise Hunt (Co-chair) Louise is a second year M.A. student in the TESOL K-12 program. She has taught EFL for two years in China prior to coming to Teachers College in both elementary and high school settings. When she is not teaching or studying, she loves coffee, bubble tea, yoga, running, traveling, and trying new things. |
Alexii Lazaridis (Social co-chair) Alexii Lazaridis is a 2013 graduate from UNC-Chapel Hill where she majored in Political Science and International Studies. She blogged for several different freelance publications and published her first book, 21 & Counting. In 2013, she volunteered as an EFL teacher in India and returned home only to find herself looking for TESOL programs! She is especially passionate about research and pedagogy in the K-12 context. Her MA project allowed her to focus on this balance as she researched the role of intrinsic motivation in the high school realm with specifically Latino, immigrant youth. |
Skye Tyler (Roundtable co-chair) Skye Tyler graduated from Hampshire College with a degree in writing and literature and is now a masters student in the TESOL-general track at Teachers College. She has worked as a volunteer with immigrant communities in Chicago, IL and Brooklyn, NY and currently teaches ESL in the Community English Program. Her interests include linguistic ethnography, the relationship between the Internet and rapid language change/second language acquisition, and the usage of creative writing as a tool for ESL development. |
Choheng Jessica Lee (Roundtable co-chair) Cho Hang (Jessica) Lei is a second year MA TESOL (General) student at TC. She got her Bachelor of Education at the University of Macau, majoring in English Education. Realising what she learned in her undergraduate education was not enough to cope with the complexities of the modern classrooms, she decided to further her studies in the U.S. She had experience in teaching kids and adolescents English before she came to TC. She loves teaching and cooking. |
Rachel Wang (Research co-chair) Rachel Wang is a second-year M.A. student in Applied Linguistics at Teachers College, Columbia University. A Wisconsin native, she earned her BA in Linguistics & Psychology at University of Wisconsin-Madison before teaching English in Japan and China. Rachel first became interested in language research as an undergrad, working on projects on a variety of topics including syntax in Menominee (an endangered Native American language), psycholinguistics, and infant language acquisition. She is most interested in classroom discourse and how teachers can interact with students more effectively. She enjoys eating her way around the world, learning new languages, and saving up for Broadway shows. |
Shuyuan Sharon Yang (Publicity co-chair) Shuyuan is a second year MA, TESOL K-12 student. She has been a journalist and photographer before her teaching career. She has taught English in China. Most recently she worked as a student teacher in public schools in New York City. Her interests include creating fun and meaningful language learning environments and Multi-language learner educational policy reform. She also loves exploring the world through travel, food, and art. |
