Melissa Smith (Co-Chair)
Melissa is a second year MA TESOL student. She is a credentialed K-12 teacher, who was inspired to study TESOL after seeing the great and growing need in American publics schools. She also enjoyed working in Abu Dhabi for three years before moving to New York. Her research interests include investigating the role Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) to support input and output needs outside of the language classroom, teaching code-switching to speakers of non-standard Englishes, and how the use of games can help students young and old conquer the challenge of second language learning. |
Jean Park (Publicity Co-Chair) Jean is an M.A. candidate in the Applied Linguistics program at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research interests include allophonic splits, the social implications of L1 pronunciation transfer, sociolinguistics, and Learner Oriented Assessment. Her other interests include creating awesome websites (such as this one), online shopping, baking, sleeping, being an enabler, dressing up her dog for photos, and pretending to hang out on the second floor of the library (she also pretends to hang out in Everett Lounge). She occasionally refuses to put her actual photo online, instead opting for adorable pictures of her dogs. Such as this costumed little guy right here. Dawww. Or occasionally, llamas. |
