Emmalee Mills, Co-President
Emmalee is in her last year as a master's student in the Applied Linguistics program at Teachers College, Columbia University. Emmalee hails from Ann Arbor, Michigan where she was born and raised and attended the University of Michigan (go blue!) but has lived in NYC for the past 3 years teaching French at a middle school in Brooklyn. Before moving to New York, she taught English in the Paris region for a year through TAPIF. Emmalee is interested in second language acquisition in children whose primary caregivers don't speak the target language. Outside of academics, Emmalee's hobbies include singing, trying new restaurants, and competing with friends in trivia. She's excited to be co-president of Roundtable and ready to plan exciting events for her fellow students this year! |
Kelsey Kwandrans, Co-President
Hi, I'm Kelsey! I'm going into my second year of the TESOL MA on the general track. I went to SUNY Geneseo for undergrad and have taught English for a few years in Spain and Western New York. I'm from Niagara Falls, NY and never stop talking about it. I like hanging out with friends, going to the movies, and kayaking. I'm super excited to meet new members and plan some great events! Tian Liao, Forum/ Research Co-Chair
Tian is a third-year part-time student in the Applied Linguistics MA program at Teachers College, Columbia University. Originally from China, she graduated in 2016 from Hunter College, CUNY, with her MA in Adolescent Education in Foreign Language Teaching. She is also a Mandarin teacher at an international school in Lower Manhattan, teaching elementary school kids Mandarin as a second language. Three years ago, Tian started taking Spanish lessons and fell in love with it immediately. Overall, she has a broad interest in Second Language Acquisition, especially cross-linguistic influence. |
Chanyoung Park, Forum/Research Co-Chair
Chanyoung is a second year MA student in Applied Linguistics at Teachers College, Columbia University. Born and raised in South Korea, he graduated in 2020 from Seowon University in Cheongju-si with his BA in English Education. His chief professional interest is teaching methodologies, especially TBLT (Task-Based Language Teaching). He worked as an English teacher in Korea within various contexts before starting his studies at TC. He likes to travel, eat and interact with people. He looks forward to being part of the AL/TESOL Roundtable this year. |
Wenxuan Zhang, Publicity/ Social Co-Chair
Wenxuan is a second-year MA student in the TESOL program at Teachers College, Columbia University. She graduated from Wenzhou-Kean University with an English major and a Psychology minor. Wenxuan’s teaching journey has spanned across China, America, and Indonesia, encompassing various settings from language institutions to private schools. She is passionate about Second Language Acquisition and strives to create engaging and practical classes for her students. Beyond her academic pursuits, Wenxuan likes to take her time enjoying what she loves, including singing, photography, and embracing sunlight on beautiful days. |
Emily Kutz, Publicity/Social Co-Chair
Emily graduated in Spring 2023 with her MA Applied Linguistics from TC and is excited to continue this year as an EdM. student focusing on second language acquisition! In addition to her studies, Emily is a head teacher at Hollingworth Preschool at TC in the 3/4s class. Prior to her time at TC, Emily obtained her BA from Juniata College in Early Childhood and Spanish Education. She has taught all ages at international schools in both Mexico and Spain. Her interests include the intersection of emergent literacy of young children and multilingualism. When not at TC, Emily enjoys traveling and spin classes. |
